Karachi (Kashmir English): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will launch a special flight operation for pilgrims traveling to Iraq for Arbaeen.

Local media reported on Monday, citing official sources, that the operation will begin on August 8, with flights from Pakistan to Najaf scheduled until August 11.

PIA will operate flights from Najaf to Pakistan between August 18 and 23.

Sources said the fare for the special Arbaeen flights has been set at 675 US dollars per passenger. However, it is likely that the PIA decrease fares and add more flights to accommodate the growing demand. Officials said the flight schedule and fares may be reviewed in light of the growing number of pilgrims in the coming days.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of Pakistani pilgrims travel overland via Iran to reach the holy city of Najaf in Iraq. The number of air travelers for Arbaeen has also been increasing steadily.
