MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority on Monday sealed a hotel and imposed fine on several other food outlets in Muzaffarabad mostly over hygiene violations.

They were found in violation of laws governing healthy and unadulterated food.

A team of the AJK Food Authority Muzaffarabad inspected milk, yogurt, and tea being used at dairy shops, burger points, and hotels in various parts of the city using a mobile food testing lab.

Food Authority Act

One hotel was sealed for violating the Food Authority Act and Pure Food Regulations.

According to details, the Food Authority inspected the quality of food items at hotels, burger shops, milk shops, and bakeries located in Upper Chattar, Lower Chattar, Domel, and Upper Adda.

With the help of the mobile food testing lab, samples of milk, edible oil, and water were collected and tested to assess the quality of food items and identify harmful ingredients, if any, so as to provide quality food to citizens.

During the inspection, one hotel was sealed for poor hygiene and violation of health regulations, while several business owners were fined and issued warnings for not complying with the Food Authority’s SOPs.

District Food Controller Abrar Mir said that providing food in strict accordance with hygiene principles to citizens is the Food Authority’s top priority. “No one will be allowed to play with human lives.”

He urged the traders to sell only the registered food items. The crackdown on unregistered and harmful items and poor hygiene arrangements will continue in the coming days.

Mir said that such operations will continue to prevent adulterated items and check quality.

He said that citizens should call the Food Authority’s given number 1280 against traders selling harmful, substandard, and unregistered items.
