JAMMU (Kashmir English): The bodies of a husband and wife buried decades ago were found quite composed after a landslide struck their ancestral graveyard in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The remains of Moulana Ibrahim Mughal, who died 24 years ago, and his wife Kaneez Bibi, who passed away four years back, were found undisturbed, with their shrouds also in good condition, according to residents of Kandi village.

It was on Friday morning after heavy rainfall triggered a landslide that hit a section of the village graveyard, exposing the two graves. “When we started clearing the debris, we found the bodies in perfect condition,” said Mohammad Javid, a local resident.

“The shrouds were also in good condition, and there was no sign of decay. It truly feels like a miracle.”

The graveyard

The graveyard, built and maintained by a few families in the village, has been in use for generations.

Locals said the couple had been buried next to each other in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Following the exposure, the bodies were reburied Friday evening in a ceremony attended by thousands of villagers who came to witness what many described as a miracle.

Officials have, however, not commented on the phenomenon, which has sparked widespread discussion in the area.
