Awareness campaign against potential floods underway in Kotli areas along Poonch River

KOTLI (Kashmir English): An awareness campaign is underway at the unit level under the supervision of Civil Defence Kotli against potential flood in the areas adjacent to Kotli along the Poonch River.

In view of the monsoon season, and the potential for floods and inundation of the areas adjacent to Kotli along the Poonch River, a warning and awareness campaign is underway at the unit level under the supervision of the Assistant Director Civil Defence Kotli, according to the district administration officials.

Civil Defence volunteers are visiting homes, neighbourhoods, and community places through their local units to inform citizens about precautionary measures, while important announcements are also being made through loudspeakers at mosques so that the message could reach every individual in a timely and effective manner.

Citizens have been advised to ensure complete compliance to the administration’s instructions, avoid unnecessary movement near the river, and in case of any emergency, immediately contact be made with the Rescue 1122, or the nearest Civil Defence Unit.

The District Administration/District Disaster Management Authority, Kotli, is always active and committed to protecting the lives and property of the public, the officials said.

According to AccuWeather, there is a little chance of rain in Azad Kashmir in the afternoon today (Saturday). “Some sun, then turning cloudy with a little rain in the afternoon,” AccuWeather reported.  With mostly sunny and hot, temperature is likely to remain between 38° /28°C today.
