NEELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): Police in Neelum Valley have successfully stopped an attempt to smuggle valuable Deodar wood, uncovering the involvement of a local political figure and his son. This operation highlights growing concerns over illegal logging and environmental damage in the region.

According to officials, the incident took place during the night when a jeep loaded with Deodar wood was being transported from Katha Peeran to Athmuqam. The smugglers were trying to take advantage of the darkness, but the Neelum Valley police acted swiftly, intercepted the vehicle, and arrested the driver on the spot.

Initial investigations revealed that the wood belonged to elected District Councilor Sardar Liaqat and his son Abdullah Madni. Police confirmed that the driver did not possess any legal permit for transporting the wood. The vehicle, along with the driver, was taken into custody, and a case has been registered under sections 06 FR and 14 EHA.

As the investigation progressed, authorities secured a four-day physical remand of Abdullah Madni for further questioning. Police say they are determined to uncover the full extent of illegal logging operations in Neelum Valley, which have caused environmental damage over the years.

This case is part of a broader crackdown on the illegal trade of natural resources in Neelum Valley. Officials believe such operations are necessary to protect local forests and preserve the natural beauty of the region.

Sources suggest that more actions are expected in the coming days as the crackdown intensifies. The government aims to stop the cutting of trees and ensure that those involved in illegal logging face strict legal consequences.
