MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir has taken suo motu action against Law Minister Mian Abdul Waheed, issuing contempt notices in connection with a case involving Sports Minister Asim Sharif Butt.
As per details, the case includes allegations that Asim Butt contested elections on a refugee seat using a fake state subject, despite being a non-state citizen.
The top court adjourned the case without setting a future date, seeking an explanation from the Law Minister for contempt of court.
Former PML-N minister Syed Shaukat Shah had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against Asim Butt’s alleged fake state subject. The court had previously ruled against Asim Butt and ordered the government to take action.
However, Asim Butt filed an appeal, which led to the recent contempt notices.
Sources said that following the contempt notice, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir has summoned his government ministers to Islamabad for consultations on Asim Sharif Butt’s potential resignation.
