SDMA warns of heavy, stormy rains in Azad Kashmir from June 25 to July 1

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has warned of light to heavy and stormy rain and winds in Azad Kashmir from June 25 to July 1.

On Monday, the SDMA issued a weather advisory citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) that predicted light to heavy and stormy rain and winds in Azad Kashmir from June 25 to July 1.

Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that most intense monsoon spell in central and upper parts of the country will be in next couple of days.

A westerly wave, it added, is expected to approach upper parts of the country and likely to become significant on 29th June 2025.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain, wind/thunderstorm with scattered heavy fall are expected in the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from June 25 to July 1, 2025 with occasional gap, the PMD said.

Heavy rain, lightning may damage loose structures

The advisory warned that wind-storms and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, hoardings etc. advising people to remain cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period.

The advisory further said that flash floods/landslides are likely during the period.

“All concerned DDMAs/Administrations, Rescue 1122, line departments, are required to undertake measures as per respective mandate.”

The authorities have sought to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the situation through feedback to SDMA.

Mass public awareness campaigns will be conducted to educate travelers in vulnerable areas about risks of flash flooding/landslides/ hailstorm and take precautionary measures.

NHA has been advised to conduct regular inspections of critical infrastructure, such as bridges and roads, to identify and address any vulnerability that may lead to structural damages during heavy rainfall.

Furthermore, farmers have been advised to take necessary precautionary measures to safeguard their crops through timely harvesting, and safe storage.
