ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Army on Tuesday shared official details of martyrs and injured; the soldiers and civilians who lost their lives or were injured during recent clashes with India, which are now being referred to as Marka-e-Haq, a term used to describe what the government calls a key defensive response.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 11 military personnel were martyred and 78 were injured during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, which was carried out in reply to Indian attacks on May 6 and 7.
Among the martyrs were six Pakistan Army soldiers and five Pakistan Air Force personnel. The army named the following soldiers who gave their lives in the line of duty: Naik Abdul Rehman, Naik Waqar Khalid, Lance Naik Dilawar Khan, Ikramullah, Sepoy Adeel Akbar, and Sepoy Nisar.
The Air Force also suffered losses, with Squadron Leader Usman Yousuf, Chief Technician Aurangzeb, Senior Technician Najeeb, Senior Technician Mubashir, and Corporal Technician Farooq confirmed as martyrs.
The ISPR further reported that unprovoked shelling by Indian forces across the Line of Control (LoC) caused heavy civilian casualties. Forty civilians, including seven women and 15 children, were killed, while 121 others were injured. Among the injured were 27 children and 10 women.

“These brave martyrs are a source of national pride. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. We also pray for the quick recovery of all those injured,” said an ISPR spokesperson. “The nation is united and determined in the face of aggression.”
Relief Package for families of martyrs
The prime minister also announced a relief package for the families of the martyrs and those affected by the conflict. Though no exact figures were given, the package includes financial aid, housing support, and education assistance for the children of those who died.
“The state stands by its heroes. Pakistan is united in sorrow, pride, and resolve. Our response to aggression shows not only our military power but also our unity as a nation,” said PM Sharif. These developments come during a time of increased tension between Pakistan and India.
So far, diplomatic efforts remain quiet, and Pakistan’s Foreign Office has urged the world to take note of the human toll caused by the recent violence.
In a televised address on Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that May 10 will be marked each year as Marka-e-Haq Day to honour the bravery and sacrifice shown during the recent events.
He said the date represents the strength, courage, and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces in defending the nation. “Our forces have made us proud through their skill and bravery,” said the prime minister.
Additionally, May 16 will be observed as a Day of Gratitude, with special prayers to thank Almighty Allah and to pray for Pakistan’s peace and prosperity.
