RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): A high-level panel discussion on “Deterrence and Diplomacy: Responding to Indian Aggression in a Changing South Asia” was held at the University of Poonch Rawalakot.

A high-level panel discussion was held today under the chairmanship of Dr. Uzma Munshi from the Department of International Relations, University of Poonch Rawalakot.

A large number of scholars, defense analysts, faculty members, and students attended the event. The panel members considered the strategic and diplomatic aspects of Pakistan’s response to the recent Indian aggression.

Dr. Uzma Munshi, Head of the Department of International Relations, inaugurated the session by welcoming the distinguished guests and participants. She stressed the importance of scholarly discourse in shaping an informed national narrative.

Rawalakot Sector Commander attended the session as the chief guest and keynote speaker. In his detailed discussion, he highlighted the objectives of Operation Banyan Marsus, which was carried out in response to India’s unprovoked aggression. He stressed that the operation has not only strengthened Pakistan’s defence capability but has also exposed India’s militant attitude towards the region.

The Sector Commander praised the unparalleled courage and bravery of the people of Poonch and especially the steadfastness of the citizens living near the LoC.

He also highlighted the historic struggle of the people of Poonch against Indian illegal occupation as the true protectors of the Kashmiri freedom movement. He said that Pakistan forces have inflicted heavy losses on Indian military assets. He said that this operation is a message that any attempt to violate Pakistan’s sovereignty will be met with a befitting reply.

Other prominent speakers included Professor Dr. Qandeel Abbas of Quaid-e-Azam University, who presented an analysis of India’s Hindutva ideology and its impact on regional stability.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Khan of the International Islamic University, Islamabad, highlighted the re-emergence of the Kashmir issue on global platforms. He stressed the need for a consistent national narrative and said that Kashmir occupies a central position in Pakistan’s foreign policy agenda.

Colonel (Retd) Sardar Shiraz presented an overview of the operational challenges and Pakistan’s response on the LoC. He stressed the importance of civil-military coordination in dealing with hybrid threats and defending national interests.

Dr. Imran Hayat, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, delivered the opening remarks and appreciated the initiative of the Department of International Relations in organizing the event.

He said that such educational platforms are very important for meaningful debate on national security and foreign policy, especially for students and young scholars. These opportunities are a great learning opportunity.

In the concluding session, Registrar Poonch University, Dr. Abdul Rauf Khan, thanked all the panelists. He paid special tribute to the Armed Forces of Pakistan and praised the decisive action of the forces against India in Operation Banyan Marsus.

He acknowledged the professionalism and strategic resolve of the military leadership and appreciated their determination to protect national sovereignty and counter Indian hegemonic ambitions. He also appreciated the efforts of the faculty, students, and administration for the successful organization of the event.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, after which commemorative shields were presented to the distinguished guests.
