NEW YORK (Kashmir English): The United Nations has announced an emergency assistance of $600,000 for those affected by the recent floods in Pakistan.
According to a UN spokesperson, this initial amount has been released to meet the immediate needs of the affected people.
The spokesperson added that the relief operations are being led by the Pakistani authorities, while the UN and local partners are providing support.
According to the spokesperson, a high-level UN delegation will visit the flood-affected areas today to assess the situation on the ground.
The UN has assured that Pakistan will not be left alone in this difficult time, and further assistance will be provided as per the circumstances.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to accelerate rescue efforts in Punjab districts affected by flooding along the Sutlej River.
He instructed the NDMA chairman to immediately evacuate residents trapped in flood-hit areas and relocate them to secure shelter.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for protective measures and intensified monitoring, particularly around Ganda Singh Wala on the Sutlej.
Moreover, he called for the timely provision of essential supplies, including food, medicines, and tents, while ensuring close coordination between the NDMA and Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
