WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): US President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani held a crucial meeting at the White House.
Both leaders expressed hope for a cordial and constructive relationship despite their tense past.
Speaking to the media after the meeting on Friday, President Trump praised Mamdani for his successful campaign on rising prices.
Trump, who had previously called Mamdani a ‘jihadi’ and threatened to revoke his citizenship, now described his success as ‘unbelievable’, saying that we had an excellent and productive meeting. We both agree on one thing: we want to see our city grow.
Mamdani also described the meeting as positive, saying that the focus of the discussion was on the well-being of the people of New York City.
He said that several issues were discussed, including rent, bills, and grocery prices.
Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist and a strong supporter of Palestinian rights, is the polar opposite of President Trump in his political thinking.
Trump’s past policies have included banning Muslims from entering the United States and branding immigrants as a threat, but the two leaders have nonetheless expressed a desire to work together on a common agenda.
Mamdani said that despite their differences, they are eager to find a common path to end America’s “forever wars” and the issue of rising inflation.
According to him, we are both clear on our positions, but the focus of our meeting was on points that could change the lives of 8.5 million New Yorkers.
Amid growing concerns about economic hardship, Trump has also praised Mamdani’s focus on ending inflation in recent statements.
The president said that he told him that many of his voters voted for him, and I have no problem with that.
