VANCOUVER (Kashmir English): In the pre-quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Switzerland defeated Colombia on penalty kicks and made it to the quarterfinals.

In the match played in Vancouver, the teams of Switzerland and Colombia failed to score any goals in the regular and extra time.

After which, 5 penalty kicks were given to both teams to decide the pre-quarterfinals, in which Switzerland defeated Colombia on penalty kicks and qualified for the quarterfinals.

Switzerland scored 4 goals in the penalty kick session, and Colombia scored 3 goals. In the quarterfinals, Switzerland will face defending champion Argentina.

Egypt exit as Argentina continue title defence

Defending champions Argentina defeated Egypt in the pre-quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to reach the quarterfinals.

In a match played in Atlanta, USA, Argentina won 3-2 after falling behind by two goals in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

In the first half, Yasser Ibrahim scored the first goal for Egypt and gave the team the lead. On this occasion, Argentina received a penalty stroke, but Argentina captain Lionel Messi failed to score. Egyptian goalkeeper Mustafa Shabbir made a brilliant save on the penalty stroke.

Mustafa Zico scored the second goal for Egypt, but the referee ruled it a foul. Mustafa Zico scored a brilliant goal shortly after to make Egypt’s lead 0-2.

Argentina scored the first goal in the 80th minute of the second half, with Messi scoring the second goal three minutes later to tie the match at 2-2.

Argentina scored a third goal in the final minutes to take a 2-3 lead over Egypt. Goals from Romero, Lionel Messi and Fernandez scored for Argentina. Goals from Ibrahim and Zico scored for Egypt.
