ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Suzuki has inaugurated the E Sky, which is their very first electric kei car in Japan and is anticipated to enter the UK market by the year 2027.
The launch of E Sky is expected to take place in the Japanese market in autumn this year and arrive in the UK within the next year, priced below £20,000 to contend with the very well-known models, including Renault Twingo among others.
E Sky is a minimalist design that perfectly abides by the strict norms about size and functionality in Japan, giving it an exact resemblance to its prototype unveiled last year at the Tokyo Mobility Show.
E Sky’s dimensions are just 3,395 mm by 1,475 mm and are hence 394 mm shorter and 245 mm narrower than a Renault Twingo, but its boxy design allows a greater interior space despite having a small footprint. Suzuki has also stated that it can accommodate four passengers comfortably as well.
The specifications of the Suzuki e Sky still cannot be confirmed, but as per kei car laws, the power output of the Suzuki e Sky will be capped to 63bhp, possibly from a motor placed at the front.
According to reports by Japanese media, the e Sky is slated to come with a battery of 26kWh, which can take it as far as 193 miles on a single charge. This is a much better performance than that of Twingo, which can achieve a maximum of 163 miles, and Super-N, which can only go 128 miles. DC charging is likely to be limited to 50 kW, but given the small size of the battery, it is likely to take around 30 minutes to charge it from 10% to 80%.
Despite the e Sky being compliant with the Japanese kei regulations, it is still not certain if Suzuki will modify it for other markets as rival companies have done.
For the British market variant of Super-N, Honda has improved the Japanese N-One e version with a 93 horsepower motor and a sporty body kit that gives it dimensions that are not in line with Japanese legislation.
