ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): TheSui Gas Companyhas extended the ban on new domestic gas connections for an indefinite period amid a growing gas shortage and rising demand ahead of the winter season.
According to sources, the suspension also covers new connections for commercial establishments, including tandoors and hotels, starting this month.
Thousands of applicants are reportedly still waiting for gas connections despite having paid the required urgent processing fees, leaving them uncertain about when their applications will be approved.
Sources said the disruption in the supply of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) has further worsened the country’s gas shortage. With temperatures beginning to drop, demand for gas has increased significantly, making it difficult for the company to maintain a steady supply even to existing domestic consumers.
In view of the worsening supply situation, the company has decided to continue suspending new connections without announcing a timeline for their restoration.
According to Sui Gas officials, the ban was imposed by the Ministry of Petroleum. They indicated that the resumption of new connections may be considered once tensions and conflict between Iran and the United States subside.
However, no definite date has been announced for lifting the restriction, leaving thousands of applicants waiting for further instructions.
The continued suspension is likely to create further difficulties for households and businesses seeking new gas connections, particularly as winter demand puts additional pressure on the existing gas supply network.
