ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The fifth spell of the monsoon season, which was originally expected to conclude by July 31, seems to have extended due to persistent weather activity across several regions, the Meteorological Department has said.

According to a Met Office official, the ongoing rainfall is a result of dynamic weather systems interacting with the prevailing moisture in the atmosphere.

“There has been significant progress in the overall weather pattern, which has led to the extension of the fifth spell,” he explained.

Sixth monsoon spell

Meanwhile, a sixth monsoon spell is forecast to begin from August 5 across several parts of the country and continue until August 9.

The Metrological Department has also predicted more rain in the next 24 hours, with moderate to heavy showers expected in parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Lahore and other upper parts of the country may continue to experience scattered rainfall.

They said the continued flow of rivers, particularly with increased water levels due to rainfall in upper catchments, is playing a key role in sustaining the weather systems.
