BARA (Kashmir English): Capital City Police Peshawar on Tuesday said that the situation in Bara in Khyber district is under control, urging the public not to pay attention to baseless rumours.
In a statement, a police spokesperson clarified that no police personnel were kidnapped in Bara, adding that around 50 people have been arrested.
The statement added that a few miscreants had attempted to create unrest, prompting police to take timely action.
Police further said that cases would be registered against those involved in damaging government property and disturbing public order under the provisions of terrorism, sabotage and taking the law.
The police spokesperson warned that attempts to disrupt peace and order would not be tolerated and that action would be taken in accordance with the law.
On the other hand, sources said that KP Police has intensified operations to identify and apprehend those involved in the incidents of rioting and vandalising government and public property, including the Rescue 1122 and NADRA office in Bara.
According to sources, further raids and arrests were expected late at night following the identification of suspects.
Miscreants led by Abdul Ghani Afridi, Iqbal Afridi and Shahid Khattak tried to spread unrest at Bara Chowk, sources said. “The police took immediate action, bringing the situation under control and arresting the involved elements.”
A large number of those already arrested are Afghans, while Abdul Ghani Afridi, Iqbal Afridi and Shahid Khattak had gone into hiding after the operation. Cases have been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) against those arrested.
Other reports suggested that prisoner vans are being transferred to Bara from Peshawar for a large-scale crackdown. Officials advised the public to rely on official information rather than unverified reports circulating on social media.
