KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a public holiday in all schools and colleges across the province on February 14 (Friday) on account of Shab-e-Barat.
As per the notification issued by the Sindh Education Department, “all the public and private educational institutions under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department would remain closed on Feb 14, 2025.”
The Shab-e-Barat falls on the 15th night of the ongoing Islamic month, Shaban.
The holiday has been announced in pursuance of the decisions taken by Sindh’s sub-committee of the steering committee on education.
Muslims around the world observe Shab-e-Barat, the holiest night between the 14th and 15th of Shaban, every year. The night, commonly called ‘The Night of Fortune and Forgiveness,’ occurs before the start of the Holy Month of Ramazan.
Muslims observe to seek forgiveness from Almighty Allah.
The believers observe the night with special religious gatherings as the faithful offer nawafil in mosques, making special prayers for unity, prosperity, security, and restoration of peace in the country and the prosperity and unity of the Muslim Ummah. People will also visit graveyards to say prayers at the graves of their loved ones.
