PM Shehbaz says ‘full efforts’ ongoing to resolve US-Iran issues

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that full efforts are still ongoing to resolve the outstanding issues between the United States and Iran.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting today, the premier commended the political and military leadership for their role in hosting the historic talks in Islamabad.

During the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the country’s political, economic, and security situation was reviewed. The PM briefed the cabinet members on Pakistan’s efforts in the Iran-US talks.

“The ceasefire is still in place and, while I am talking to you, efforts are ongoing to resolve the outstanding issues between the two countries,” PM Sharif said.

The premier said that the credit for bringing Iran and the US face-to-face after many decades goes to Pakistan. He said that Pakistan is hopeful for positive progress in the talks.

Moreover, the federal cabinet unanimously approved a resolution, prostrating its gratitude to the Almighty God for allowing Pakistan to play a central role in establishing peace in the region and the world.

The resolution paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for holding these historic peace talks between Iran and the United States.

“PM Shebaz, DPM Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal, along with their aides, brought the two warring parties together with tireless dedication, hard work, and prudence and ended the stalemate that lasted almost half a century,” the resolution stated.

The cabinet highly appreciated the day and night efforts of those, especially Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who have been awake all night and have handled the matters very well.  “We pray that Allah Almighty may grant them success in this journey of peace.”

“Undoubtedly, this role of Pakistan will always be remembered in the history of the world. We pray that these sincere efforts of the Pakistani leadership will be successful and lead to the establishment of peace in the world,” the resolution stated.

“Pakistan will continue to play its role’

Addressing the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan will continue to play its role for sustainable peace in the region, and efforts are underway to resolve the outstanding issues between the US and Iran.

Sharif said after 47 years, there were face-to-face talks at the highest level between the two countries, the American and Iranian delegations came to Pakistan at our request. “I am grateful to both presidents; the result of Pakistan’s efforts is that the ceasefire is still in place,” he said.

He appreciated the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar and his team, and also congratulated and paid tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir and his team.

He said that I congratulate and pay tribute to the Field Marshal and his team, they stayed up all night, history will remember the role of Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir in golden letters.
