ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has reserved its decision on the request for an increase in the price of electricity by Rs 2.52 per unit under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment (FCA) of July 2026.
According to the details, the Central Power Purchasing Agency Guaranteed had submitted a request to Nepra to increase the cost of electricity under the July fuel cost adjustment. The request has requested an increase of Rs 2.52 per unit in the price of electricity.
According to the data, the actual fuel cost of electricity in July was Rs 9.61 per unit, while the reference fuel cost was fixed at Rs 7.9 per unit. An increase of Rs 2.52 per unit was requested based on the difference between the two costs.
If the proposed increase is fully approved by Nepra, a total of about Rs 36.54 billion can be collected from consumers.
It will be clear only after the final decision how much additional amount will be collected from consumers in September electricity bills.
A significant increase in the cost of power generation was recorded during July, with expensive imported fuels, especially RLNG, imported coal, and other sources of power generation playing a major role in increasing the overall fuel cost.
The fuel cost of electricity in July was about 38 percent higher than the same month last year. The cost of electricity generated from imported coal was recorded at about Rs 16.33 per unit.
According to the data presented to NEPRA, the cost of generating electricity from imported LNG in July was about Rs 47.37 per unit, while the cost of generating electricity from imported coal was recorded at Rs 54.47 per unit.
If NEPRA approves the increase of Rs 2.52 per unit demanded by CPPA-G, its impact may be reflected in the electricity bills of September. However, this increase is not final at present, and the decision to pay an additional amount to consumers is subject to the final decision of NEPRA.
Earlier, NEPRA had approved an additional collection of 75 paise per unit under the June 2026 fuel price adjustment, which was applied in the electricity bills of August.
