LAHORE (Kashmir English): Government vehicles used under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) consumed more than 810,000 litres of fuel over the past five years, according to a report presented in Parliament.
According to the document, a total of 75 vehicles are being used under the BISP programme. Of these, 28 vehicles are deployed at the BISP headquarters, while 12 are being used in Punjab, 17 in Sindh, seven in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six in Balochistan, and five in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The document shows that vehicles in the Islamabad region consumed around 402,400 litres of fuel during the five years, while vehicles in Punjab consumed 100,788 litres.
The report also provides fuel consumption figures for vehicles operating in Sindh and other regions, with the expenditure running into crores of rupees.
However, the figures presented in the document appear to contain a discrepancy, as the reported Sindh consumption of 1,828,850 litres alone exceeds the overall figure of more than 810,000 litres cited in the report. The discrepancy may require clarification from the relevant authorities.
The fuel consumption figures have brought renewed attention to the operating expenses associated with government vehicles being used under the social welfare programme.
