ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Islamabad district administration is expected to block major thoroughfares in the federal capital due to the protest call for tomorrow after Friday prayers.

According to the reports, the rally is expected to start from G-6/2 Imambargah towards D-Chowk in the Red Zone on Friday, protesting against the martyrdom of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Road closures and traffic diversions are expected around the Red Zone, G-6, Aabpara Market, and D-Chowk.

The authorities will place containers around the Red Zone and Imambargh to control the protest. As per details, containers will be placed at Fazal-e-Haq Road near G-6 Imambargah.
The Islamabad administration has also decided to completely seal the Red Zone, tightening the security around Parliament, the Diplomatic Enclave, and other important government offices in the area.

Security has also been increased at Imambargahs, mosques, and sensitive locations in view of the alert in the city. Police, Ranges, and other law enforcement agencies have been instructed to remain on high alert.

Police have beefed up the monitoring of entry and exit routes in the city. The administration is taking strict measures to maintain law and order.

Protest in Islamabad

Earlier on Sunday, protests erupted across Islamabad after the news of Khamenei’s assassination.

The protests turned violent after law enforcement personnel stopped them from marching towards the Diplomatic Enclave.

Amid the situation, the district administration imposed Section 144 in the city, declaring all kinds of public gatherings and assemblies unlawful.

“Any form of protest, demonstration, or public assembly will be considered a violation of the imposed restrictions. Citizens are advised not to participate in any gathering or assembly,” a statement issued by the ICT administration said.

It added that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating Section 144.

On the other hand, the US embassy on Sunday issued a security alert for American nationals in Pakistan, advising them to exercise caution and avoid frequenting public places unnecessarily. It also cancelled all appointments for US visas and American Citizen Services.
