QUETTA (Kashmir English): Security forces have repelled a cross-border attack by Afghan Taliban personnel in the Gulistan sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Balochistan, sources said on Thursday night.
According to security sources, several Afghan Taliban fighters were killed in retaliatory action.
The sources said that Afghan Taliban personnel attempted to infiltrate and carry out an attack, prompting an immediate response from Pakistani forces.
Several Afghan Taliban personnel were killed during the ensuing exchange of fire.
Intermittent firing between security forces and Afghan Taliban fighters is continuing, the sources said, adding that forces remain fully alert and vigilant along the border.
“Every infiltration into Pakistani borders from Afghan soil will be responded to in a timely and effective manner,” security sources said.
In addition, sources stated that the Afghan Taliban also launched four rudimentary drones towards the Gulistan sector, which were brought down successfully.
Earlier today, Pakistan conducted precision aerial and drone strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan in response to recent attempted drone attacks launched by the Taliban regime earlier this week, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said.
Pakistan does not seek escalation and remains committed to regional peace, dialogue and constructive engagement, said Tarar.
However, the minister said this commitment must not be mistaken for weakness or an unlimited tolerance of hostile actions.
