RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Section 144 has been imposed in Murree and Rawalpindi for one month.

 Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (Retd.) Captain Nadeem Nasir has issued the notification.

According to the notification, Section 144 will remain in effect from October 10 to November 8, banning public meetings, processions, rallies, sit-ins, and protests across the district, as well as gatherings of five or more people.

The notification also prohibits the carrying of weapons, batons, and petrol bombs, and bans pillion riding on motorcycles and the use of loudspeakers. Section 144 has been enforced across the district due to security concerns, and legal action will be taken against violators.

KP Police issues operational guidelines for handling riots, protests

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has issued written operational guidelines to deal with riots and protest demonstrations.

According to the Instruction, Elements involved in rioting, vandalism, or disrupting law and order will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Under no circumstances will damage to government installations, buildings, or property be permitted during any riot or protest, the instruction added.

Moreover, “The public is warned to refrain from participating in any illegal gatherings, violent activities, or acts of incitement; otherwise, the strictest legal action will be taken.

Action in accordance with the law will be ensured against elements that disrupt law and order, attack security forces or buildings, or endanger the lives and property of citizens.”

Additionally, “Citizens are advised to remain peaceful, abide by the law, and not be misled by miscreants.

Special arrangements will be made to protect police stations, government buildings, banks, petrol pumps, commercial centers, and major highways.

Protest demonstrations and activities will be video-recorded to facilitate necessary legal proceedings at a later stage.”

Liaison and coordination with the district administration and other relevant agencies will be ensured to effectively handle protest situations, as per the instructions.
