MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster and Management Authority (SDMA) has issued a travel advisory urging the public and tourists to follow the following safety measures during and after snowfall to avoid any accidents or unforeseen situations.
Pre-travel measures
The authorities have advised the citizens to get the latest information on the weather and road conditions before traveling. In addition, do not forget to check the brakes, tires, battery, and heater of the vehicle.
It is necessary to have snow chains, extra fuel, and a first aid kit in the vehicle to facilitate in case of an emergency.
Precautionary measures during travel
The authorities have said to keep the speed of the vehicle low and maintain a safe distance. Avoid sudden braking on slippery roads and do not stop the vehicle at places with landslides or avalanches. Citizens have been requested to always follow the official instructions and orders of the traffic police.
Personal safety measures:
In view of the cold weather, citizens have been instructed to wear warm clothes, gloves, hats, and waterproof shoes. It is important to keep mobile phones fully charged, and special care should be taken of children, the elderly, and sick people.
Emergency measures
In case of a vehicle breakdown, authorities have instructed to stay in a safe place and not leave the vehicle unnecessarily. Citizens can contact 1122 or the district control room for immediate help.
These instructions have been issued by the State Disaster and Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the safety of every citizen and tourist during snowfall.
