ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Senate of Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution rejecting Indian allegations linking Pakistan to the recent Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, expressing strong disapproval over New Delhi’s provocative claims.
The resolution rejecting Indian allegations was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a Senate session held on Friday.
It condemned all forms of terrorism, including the tragic incident in Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed the lives of several Indian tourists. However, it strongly criticised India’s “baseless” attempt to blame Pakistan without any investigation or proof.
Dar stated that if anyone looked at Pakistan with a hostile eye, they should know the country is fully prepared to defend itself. “Pakistan will respond appropriately to any Indian misadventure,” he warned, adding that blaming Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack was both “regrettable and unacceptable.”
Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani presided over the session, where the resolution rejecting Indian allegations received unanimous support from both government and opposition benches. The rare unity sent a clear message that all political forces in Pakistan stand behind the country’s armed forces and national security interests.
Dar further expressed concern over India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling water the lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million people. “We categorically reject India’s move to unilaterally suspend the treaty,” he said.
In a series of diplomatic countermeasures, Dar announced that the Wagah border would be immediately closed. Additionally, under the SAARC agreement, all Indian visas issued to citizens currently in Pakistan were cancelled, though Sikh pilgrims were exempt from this restriction.
Pakistan also declared the Indian defence attaché in Islamabad as persona non grata and ordered a reduction in Indian High Commission staff to 30. Furthermore, Pakistan’s airspace has been closed to Indian flights as part of the response.
“We hope India does not repeat its mistake of launching campaigns against Pakistan. If the aggression continues, we may also consider unilaterally terminating other bilateral agreements,” Dar stated.
This resolution rejecting Indian allegations marks a significant diplomatic escalation in Pakistan-India tensions and reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty against false narratives.
