BAGH (Kashmir English): Re-polling is currently underway at 23 polling stations in constituencies LA-15 Bagh II and LA-16 Bagh III of Bagh district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), after polling was either cancelled or did not take place during the August 10 polls.
The balloting began at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm under tight security.
Under the third phase of polls in the region, the elections were held in four constituencies of Bagh and Haveli district, LA-14, LA-15, LA-16, and LA-17, on August 10.
Following the polling, the Election Commission announced the complete results of LA-14 and LA-17 and withheld the results of LA-15 and LA-16, saying that polling could not be held at 23 stations in both constituencies due to various reasons.
Today, the polling is being held at 9 polling stations in LA-15 Bagh-II, where a total of 5,032 voters will cast their votes. These polling stations include 114, 135, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, and 186.
In the third phase, PPP’s Sardar Ziaul Qamar is leading with 16,637 votes in LA-15, followed by PML-N’s Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas with 15,015 and Jamaat-e-Islami’s retired Brig Dr Muhammad Khan with 12,259.
Similarly, the balloting is underway at 14 polling stations in LA-16 Bagh-III with 7,238 registered voters. Here, PML-N candidate Sardar Mir Akbar has secured 19,515 votes, while his closest rival, PPP’s Sardar Qamaruz Zaman, has got 16,290 votes.
The polling stations where re-polling is being conducted are 28, 29, 40, 49, 50, 51, 77, 91, 109, 110, 111, 112, 143, and 149.
Officials say that all necessary steps have been taken to conduct the free and fair re-polling process in both constituencies, while voters are being provided with the facility to exercise their right to vote without any hindrance.
