ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Muslims in Pakistan may begin fasting for the holy month of Ramadan on February 9, 2027, while the month is expected to end around March 8, according to preliminary astronomical projections.
The expected dates are based on calculations of the lunar calendar, under which Islamic months begin with the sighting of a new moon. Ramadan moves approximately 10 to 11 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar.
Astronomical estimates suggest that the Ramadan moon could be sighted in Pakistan on February 8 or February 9. The first day of fasting will depend on the actual moon sighting and the official announcement.
Ramadan lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the appearance of the Shawwal moon. Based on current projections, the fasting month could conclude around March 8, 2027, with Eid-ul-Fitr expected to follow.
However, these dates are not final. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will announce the official beginning and end of Ramadan after receiving and reviewing moon-sighting testimonies in accordance with Islamic requirements.
The public should therefore treat the projected dates as estimates until the committee issues its formal announcement.
