Punjab govt notifies ‘no holiday for schools’ on May 28

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has announced that all government schools across the province will remain open on May 28 to celebrate Youm-e-Takbeer.

As per the notification issued on Tuesday, schools will arrange special programmes, including morning assembly programmes, national songs, speeches, and tributes to the Pakistan Armed Forces.

The department has issued instructions to all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities to ensure that the day is commemorated with a positive social message for peace and courage.

In addition to that, the notification also instructed to organise district-level competitions, including speech contests, art and poster contests, and Milli Naghme (national song) performances.

The students who will excel in the Youm-e-Takbeer competitions will be awarded cash prizes of Rs50,000, it added.

The department also said that summer vacations will be announced after the Youm-e-Takbeer activities.

Earlier, the government announced a public holiday on May 28 (Wednesday) to mark the historic day of Youm-e-Takbeer.

May 28 is observed as a gazetted holiday across the country, which was already notified by the Cabinet Division last year.
