MULTAN (Kashmir English): The government of Punjab has declared a local public holiday in Multan for July 22 in honor of the annual Urs of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Multani (RA) in celebration of the 787th anniversary of the holy man who was born in that very city.
According to the official notification released by Multan Deputy Commissioner Dr. Faisal Saleem, all the government offices, district departments, and public institutes will be closed on Tuesday, July 22.
The district administration has announced that the holiday will help devotees and people attending this annual Urs event.
The Urs of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya Multani (RA) is considered one of the biggest annual religious festivals in Multan. Each year, thousands of people visit this shrine and participate in different events held in memory of this great Sufi.
This shrine of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya (RA) is situated in the ancient city of Multan, and it is considered one of the most important Sufi shrines in Pakistan.

Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya (RA) was a prominent Islamic scholar who lived in the 13th century. He was the leader of the Suhrawardi order and is credited with a significant role in teaching and disseminating Islam throughout the region.
The religious festival includes several religious meetings, reading of the Quran, prayers, and other forms of religious worship. Thousands of people also visit the shrine to honor the lessons of the saint.
This local holiday is created with the purpose of ensuring the participation of government officials, residents, and pilgrims in the ceremony of the Urs without any interruptions.
This public holiday is celebrated exclusively in the district of Multan and not in other parts of Punjab province.
