ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to mobile phone users, urging them to make sure that their SIM cards are registered in their own name to prevent misuse.
According to a recent Facebook post by the PTA, it is important to verify your own SIM cards since stolen personal data may be used by others to illegally obtain them. These SIMs can then be used for crimes, fraud, or even terrorism-related activities.
To check how many SIM cards are registered under a person’s CNIC, users can either visit cnic.sims.pk or send their CNIC number via SMS to 668. If a user finds a SIM registered in their name that they’re not using, the PTA strongly advises that it should be blocked without delay.
The PTA runs the 668 SIM Information System, which helps users verify how many mobile numbers are linked to their identity. This step is part of wider efforts to prevent misuse of mobile networks.
In addition to SIM checks, the PTA reminded the public that all mobile phones must also be registered under Pakistan’s Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS). This system is designed to make sure mobile devices follow national security rules.
Additionally, The PTA also revealed that it has taken action against online platforms spreading anti-Pakistan content. It confirmed the blocking of 16 YouTube news channels, 31 YouTube video links, and 32 websites.
According to the authorities, these channels and sites were involved in spreading false or misleading content that could harm public unity and damage Pakistan’s image.
“The objective of this content was to influence public opinion negatively and damage national cohesion,” the PTA said in an official statement.
The telecom regulator said this step was necessary to protect national interests and safeguard the country’s digital environment.
