ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has formally initiated the process of licensing companies providing Virtual Private Network services.

The authority took this step under the Commercial Cloud VPN Services framework, CVAS-Data, to ensure safe, reliable, and legal VPN services in the country, as per the issued statement.

It said six companies, including Alpha 3 Cubic (Steer Lucid), Zettabyte (Crest VPN), Nexilium Tech (Kestrel VPN), UKI Conic Solutions (QuiXure VPN), and Vision Tech 360 (Kryptonyme VPN), have been granted VPN licenses.

This permits these companies to offer VPN services as per the national laws and the objectives of policy.

Licensed VPN services are aimed at providing internet users with a safe, legal, and regulated digital facility to avoid the usage of illegal services and increase the country’s digital ecosystem, PTA stated.

The authority has now legally allowed users to access PTA-approved VPN services for internet browsing, mobile banking, and remote work, among other services.

The PTA also said that this step will help enhance cybersecurity and ensure more transparency in digital technologies, along with data protection.
