PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): Significant progress has been made during the investigation into the murder case of Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idris, according to investigative officials.
Initial evidence has indicated the involvement of Afghan terrorists in the murder.
Officials stated that a joint investigative team comprising CTD and local police thoroughly reviewed CCTV footage, from which images of the target killers have been obtained.
According to sources, one of the four terrorists involved in the incident has been identified with the help of CCTV cameras.
Initial investigations have also revealed that the attackers are linked to Afghan terrorists and have been in contact with a foreign intelligence agency, though further confirmation is being sought in this regard.
According to investigative officials, efforts are underway to reach the entire network based on this lead, while initial evidence suggests the possibility that the incident was planned in Afghanistan.
Officials said that investigations into various aspects of the case are ongoing, and further revelations are expected in the coming days.
PM condoles death of Maulana Idris
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the martyrdom of Sheikh Idris, offered condolences, and prayed for the deceased’s forgiveness and elevation of status.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning when unknown assailants ambushed Maulana Muhammad Idris’s vehicle in Utmanzai, that severely injured him.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The vehicle was also severely damaged by the firing.
Following the incident, security in the area was put on high alert. A large contingent of police cordoned off the crime scene and collected evidence.
Search operations were also launched in various locations, including the border areas of Peshawar and Charsadda.
On the other hand, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) has announced protest demonstrations against the murder of Maulana Idris at provincial headquarters and districts.
According to the party spokesperson, peaceful protests will be held in major cities across the country on Wednesday and Friday.
The provincial leadership, Governor, and Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa strongly condemned the incident and ordered an immediate investigation, while the Inspector General of Police also issued special directives for the swift arrest of the culprits.
