NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif met with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Syria in areas such as bilateral relations, trade and investment, education, information technology, and other sectors of mutual interest.
During the meeting in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its historic and fraternal ties with Syria.
He assured Syria of Pakistan’s support for its sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and political independence, and conveyed best wishes for national stability, national solidarity, peace, and economic recovery for the Syrian people.
The two leaders discussed measures to further strengthen bilateral relations, including fostering high-level contacts, activating institutional mechanisms, and ensuring effective cooperation across various sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s desire to provide practical support for Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery.
Reiterating Pakistan’s principled support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, he emphasized the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to the principles of the UN Charter in promoting peace and stability in the region.
The leaders also exchanged views on the regional situation. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and for a just and lasting solution to the Palestine issue in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and international law.
The meeting served to reaffirm the long-standing friendly relations between Pakistan and Syria and demonstrated a shared commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
