ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the Pakistan armed forces have given a “strong and befitting” response to India’s late-night cowardly attack on civilian areas inside Pakistan.
Addressing the National Assembly on Wednesday, the premier said India used the dead and dark of the night to launch a “cowardly” attack on Pakistan, but the military gave them a tit-for-tat response.
The Pakistan Army turned India’s dark night attack into a ‘moonlit victory’ by giving a resolute response, he remarked. He castigated the “enemy” for attacking Pakistan under the cover of darkness, but lauded the Pakistan armed forces for effective retaliation.
Furthermore, PM Shehbaz lauded the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and its chief for the swift response to Indian aggression, saying that the armed forces had prior intelligence about India’s aggressive plans.
“Last night, 80 Indian aircraft were part of the offensive, but Pakistan’s air defence effectively neutralised the threat,” he said. “We shot down five enemy jets, including Rafales, and also downed two Indian drones.”
Referring to India’s purchase of Rafale fighter jets, the prime minister said, “India took great pride in those aircraft, but when their Rafale jets entered our airspace, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jammed their communications.”
He said India summoned the ambassador of a friendly country to protest its support for Pakistan’s peace efforts. “This reflects India’s frustration,” the prime minister added.

Extending congratulations to the people of Pakistan, PM Shehbaz said, “Our armed forces were on high alert round the clock and ready to defend the homeland.”
The prime minister further said Pakistan had offered a transparent international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, but India responded with aggression instead of cooperation.
In addition to that, PM Shehbaz has said Pakistani jets did not cross into the Indian airspace and yet succeeded in shooting down five jets, including three Rafales. Two of them fell in occupied Kashmir and one in India’s Bathinda.
Two drones were also taken down, the prime minister said. “This is conventional warfare […] and those who used to say India has left Pakistan behind in conventional warfare … they now know what we are, whether it is nuclear warfare or conventional.”
“Our enemies were unable to sleep last night, and our friends have realised that they can approach Pakistan for help whenever they may be in a tough time, and there is nothing more respectful for Pakistan than this,” PM Shehbaz added.
Moreover, the Prime Minister also called on the opposition, particularly PTI, to set aside political differences and work towards building a stronger and united Pakistan. “Let’s make Pakistan great—together,” he said.
