ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Senior Journalist Najam Sethi has stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir deserve the Nobel recognition for their positive role in Middle East peace efforts.
While talking to Karan Thapar in an interview with The Wire, Sethi stated, ‘The Middle East’s just concluded season of war and peace has been quite extraordinary. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister, and Interior Minister of Pakistan, and Field Marshal Asim Munir have been instrumental in the process.’
Sethi revealed that Iran has spoken publicly of their involvement, while the US also indirectly confirmed Pakistan’s participation in several ways.
While the Indo-Pak war was perhaps not strong enough for a Nobel award, Sethi said that the region’s peace now constitutes a historic development in the realm of international affairs, and since this effort has implications much larger than a regional context, in fact, it addresses a larger agenda of international Peace, then the nation’s leadership ought to be considered worthy for an award in this category.
