ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, on Monday, embarked on a one-day visit to Qatar to convey his condolences over the demise of former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to the announcement made by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on the X social networking site, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif is also accompanying the Prime Minister on this trip to Qatar.
“During his visit, the prime minister will hold meetings with the current Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and convey his condolences over the death of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” read the PMO’s announcement.
It added that the Prime Minister’s visit to Qatar would showcase the longstanding fraternity of the Qatari royal family, people of Qatar and the Government and people of Pakistan.
It was further mentioned that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar are also accompanying the Prime Minister in this visit.
The previous day, Qatar announced the death of its former Emir who ruled the country during 1995-2013. He was 74 years old.
Pakistan announces Mourning Day
The federal government has declared a day of national mourning on July 13 (Monday) on the death of former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, and the national flag will fly at half-mast.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division of the federal government said that as a sign of solidarity between the government and the people of Pakistan with the royal family and people of Qatar, the Prime Minister has declared Monday, July 13, 2026, as a day of national mourning in Pakistan on the death of the Emir’s father and former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The notification said that on July 13, 2026, the national flag will fly at half-mast across the country.
After the news of the death of the former Emir was released by Qatar, a series of condolence messages have been sent from all over the world. Details regarding his funeral prayer and burial have not yet been revealed.
