LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced a four-team One-Day tournament next month for the preparation of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed said that a four-team tournament will be played in August before the start of the domestic first-class season.
The tournament is aimed at identifying a core pool of players for the global event, which is approximately 18 months away.
“We have around 18 months until the 2027 World Cup, so this is the right time to begin our preparations,” he said.
Javed said that the national selectors and coaches have come together and designed a four-team tournament in which Pakistan’s all leading white-ball players will participate to make four balanced sides.
The Director of High Performance said that the selectors and coaches will also determine each team’s playing XI according to the role of each player, and from the tournament, we will know which group of players should form the core of our plans going forward.
He noted that all matches will be televised, everyone’s performance will be in front of everyone, and it will be easy to form a pool.
He added that the Pakistan team’s ranking in ODIs should be in the top four; ranking below this cannot be accepted.
