ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The search and rescue team has reportedly located the body of Pakistani climber Dr. Asma Mushtaq beyond Camp-3 on the 7,027-metre Spantik Peak of Gilgit-Baltistan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Monday.
In a post on X, federal minister Tarar added that the team is assessing site conditions and finalizing arrangements for safe recovery and controlled evacuation to Base Camp, considering the high-altitude terrain and associated risks.

Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) Secretary General Ayaz Shigri said that a five-member team had initiated a new recovery mission on Friday after earlier attempts remained unsuccessful due to heavy snowfall, Dawn reported.
The team recovered the body near Camp 3 of the peak, which is located at a height of approximately 6,250 metres, Shigri said.
Mountaineer Asma Mushtaq died of a serious illness on her return after scaling the 7,027-meter-high Spantik Peak in the Karakorum Mountain range, the Alpine Club of Pakistan said.
The club said that 36-year-old Asma Mushtaq successfully reached the summit of Spantik in good health. “Sadly, during her descent at approximately 6,400m, she suffered a serious high-altitude medical emergency.”
The statement further added that despite the immediate and dedicated efforts of her mountain guides, who provided every possible assistance under extremely challenging conditions, she could not survive.
The recovery operation had been a prolonged and difficult mission due to harsh weather conditions at high altitude.
On August 23, the minister said that high-altitude porters were expected to reach Camp-3 for retrieval of the body of Dr.Asma and bring it down to base camp by tomorrow, but due to severe weather conditions, heavy snowfall, and strong winds, the team had to turn back and return to Camp 2.
“Heli has been authorised, and coordination has been done between the GB Government and FCNA. Alternate arrangements are also in place. Whatever can be done in these circumstances will be done,” the minister said in a post on X.
