ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan TV not only broke a 232-year record but also succeeded in defending the lowest total in first-class Pakistan cricket to claim victory against Sui Northern in the President’s Trophy through their immense effort.

Sui Northern, who were set a target of 40 runs to win, lost their wickets for a mere 37 runs at the National Stadium in Karachi. The previous record for the lowest total successfully defended in a first-class game was held by Oldfield, who won by six runs against the Marylebone Cricket Club by defending just 41 in August 1794.

“I am really happy about the effort my players put forth, which resulted in a world record,” PTV’s chief coach Mohammad Waseem revealed to AFP. “The motto of my team is to never surrender, fight to the last ball.

“We have achieved victory in all three of our matches by coming from very far behind, being optimistic in all circumstances.” Sui Northern scored 238 in their first innings and bowled Pakistan TV out for 166, thereby taking a lead of 72 runs. Pakistan TV lost their wickets for 111 runs in the second innings, seemingly paving Sui Northern’s way to an easy victory, but the five-time President’s Trophy winners had a hard time on a bad pitch.

Ali Usman took 6-9, and Amad Butt was responsible for 4-28 to help the champions retain their title. The win lifts Pakistan TV to the second spot on the points table, while it is Sui Northern who now occupy the third place after four matches. The final of the President’s Trophy is to be played between 8 and 12 February, and the two top teams after seven group matches will be the ones qualifying directly.
