LAHORE (Kashmir Digital): The proposed tri-nation series involving Pakistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe next year is increasingly unlikely to go ahead as originally planned.
Sources said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering changes to the national team’s schedule ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup.
The three cricket boards had been considering a tri-nation series in Pakistan, but Zimbabwe is now unlikely to tour the country for the proposed event.
Moreover, Ireland’s planned tour of Pakistan could also undergo significant changes. Sources said an earlier proposal included one Test and three T20Is between Pakistan and Ireland.
However, those matches are now uncertain, with the Irish side potentially touring Pakistan only for a three-match ODI series.
According to sources, consultations are ongoing between the three cricket boards in this regard and a final decision will be taken after mutual consultations.
Sources say that the PCB’s think tank wants to focus more on ODI matches, keeping in mind the ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year.
Sources further added that the schedule of the national team is also being prepared in the context of the World Cup to be held next year, in which a proposal to prioritize the ODI format is under consideration.
