ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan and India have agreed to pull back their troops to peacetime positions along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border by May 30, local media reported on Monday citing officials familiar with the development.

They said both countries have reached a mutual understanding to reposition their armed forces.

Military leadership from both sides, particularly the Directors General of Military Operation (DGMOs), are actively working to ensure a phased pullback.

The move is being viewed as a critical step forward towards peace following the ceasefire that has largely held.

Confrontation between India and Pakistan

Officials described the de-escalation as a “continuation of confidence-building measures,” marking a potential thaw after weeks of heightened military confrontation between India and Pakistan.

“The return to normal military positions is part of the second phase of the ceasefire framework,” local media quoted a senior government source as having said.

It added that the decision was facilitated by diplomatic efforts from the United States and other concerned nations.

The escalation began after what Pakistani officials described as acts of aggression from India, prompting both armies to move forward from their usual positions and assume combat-ready postures along the border.
