Pakhral killings: DC Mirpur suspends two patwaris for negligence

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Raja Sadaqat Khan on Monday suspended two patwaris over the recent incident, where five people were murdered in Pakhral and Sahang villages in Mirpur.

According to the DC Office order, five people, including two brothers, were killed over a land dispute in the limits of Afzalpur Police Station on Sunday.

Three people, identified as Ghalib, Khurram, and Irfan, died on the spot, while two others scummbed to injuries. Two other injured are currently under treatment in DHQ Hospital Mirpur.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur Khurram Iqbal confirmed that the police have arrested two accused, Ishtiaq and Yasir Yaqoob, in two days, saying that strict action will be taken against the accused.

Following the incident, DC Mirpur immediately suspended the concerned patwaris, Muhammad Ilyas and Qaiser Khalil, for not taking immediate action over this sensitive matter.

“The Patwaris did not send a timely report to their seniors regarding these sensitive matters, nor did they inform them of the incident in time, which is tantamount to negligence, carelessness, and dereliction of duty,” the order stated.

Along with their suspension, the DC Mirpur has appointed Assistant Commissioner Islamgarh as inquiry officer and directed him to conduct an inquiry against both Patwaris and submit a report within ten days so that further action can be taken, it said.
