MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The joint opposition in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has warned the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government that it could face a no-confidence motion if governance and performance are not improved.
The leaders from the opposition benches held a press conference outside the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly, and severely criticised the government.
AJK a sensitive region
Opposition leader Shah Ghulam Qadir stated that Azad Kashmir is a sensitive region and public issues should only be discussed within the assembly.
He said that the PPP government does not have a clear majority, and if their attitude does not improve, a no-confidence motion could be brought forward.
Former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said that he had previously stated that a fifth Prime Minister could also emerge.
Opposition leader Khawaja Farooq Ahmed clarified that they are in favour of the assembly completing its term and timely elections are held, adding they don’t want a “fifth” Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq stated that a requisition for the assembly session has been submitted and the government will have to respond in the house. The opposition demanded that political matters be resolved within the constitutional framework.
