KARACHI (Kashmir English): All consumers of electricity in Pakistan, including those in Karachi, need to prepare themselves for an increase in their power tariff.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear a request on Wednesday asking the utility company to hike electricity rates by Rs. 1.20/unit.
The request was submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to the regulatory authority for the purpose of the monthly adjustment of fuel costs made in June. It must be noted that the increase will also affect K-Electric Consumers, according to the Government’s Policy Guidelines.
Previously, NEPRA had agreed to a Rs. 0.34 per unit hike for this component as part of its May monthly fuel cost adjustment that showed up on your electricity bill when you got them in July.
The regulatory authority will assess the CPPA’s requests at the public hearing and then come to a final decision on whether they should be granted. And if the regulator gives the green light to the proposals, we will see an extra charge on consumers’ electricity bills under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
