BAHAWALPUR (Kashmir English): Polling for the by-election in Bahawalpur‘s constituency NA-168 is set to take place today, as the delivery of election materials has been completed.
According to the Returning Officer (RO), polling for the National Assembly seat will continue uninterrupted from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The contest is primarily between PML-N candidate Munir Iqbal Channar and independent candidate Wali Dad Cheema, with 18 other candidates also in the fray.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Malik Iqbal Channar; his son, Munir Iqbal Channar, enjoys the support of both the PML-N and the PPP, while independent candidate Wali Dad Cheema is backed by his father, MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema.
According to an Election Commission spokesperson, the total number of registered voters in the constituency is 463,143 comprising 248,529 men and 234,614 women.
A total of 292 polling stations have been established, including 130 for men, 130 for women, and 32 combined stations.
Personnel deployed include 307 presiding officers and 941 polling and assistant presiding officers.
The constituency comprises Bahawalpur city and certain rural areas along the Sutlej River; a total of 20 candidates are vying for the seat.
