MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Assistant Commissioner Muzaffarabad Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Syed Ghulam Mohiuddin Gilani took action against Muzaffarabad transport operators on Eid for overcharging and not issuing tickets by sealing a bus stand and ensuring refunds for passengers.

Assistant Commissioner Syed Ghulam Mohiuddin Gilani took strict action against transporters charging excessive fares and those failing to issue tickets to passengers during Eid.

The crackdown resulted in the sealing of the Toyota HiAce stand operating on the Muzaffarabad to Athmuqam route for failing to provide proper tickets. Several transport operators were issued warnings, while many passengers were reimbursed on the spot for the extra fares they had been charged.

The Assistant Commissioner personally inspected various transport stands, including Muzaffarabad to Chinari, Chakothi, Chikar, Leepa, Dana Kacheli, and Komi Kot at the old bus terminal.

The official conducted facility assessments of the new bus terminal to supervise transportation services operating on Rawalpindi and Kail and Sharda, and Athmuqam routes.

Officials performed an operation that resulted in sealing the Athmuqam transport stand because the establishment broke ticketing rules. All passengers who received excessive charges received immediate refunds from the authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Gilani emphasised that strict measures would continue against transporters exploiting passengers, particularly during festive occasions when travel demand is high. He reiterated that public transport operators must adhere to government fare regulations and issue proper tickets to all passengers to ensure transparency and fairness.

Many local people and traveling passengers backed the government crackdown stating that active enforcement helps to stabilize prices and protects the interests of all passengers. Travelers expressed their concerns about price surges that occur during peak travel times while demanding continual oversight from authorities throughout the entire year.

The district administration confirmed its dedication to public rights protection while issuing warnings to transport companies about violations leading to additional consequences such as financial penalties and license suspension.
