MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a move aimed at improving road safety, the office of the Inspector General of Police in Azad Kashmir has announced the launch of a special campaign against underage drivers in Muzaffarabad and other districts starting this month.
The campaign, which targets underage drivers, those riding without helmets, and individuals involved in one-wheeling, will be conducted under the directives of the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police and the Superintendent of Traffic Police. The initiative will be closely supervised by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Region Muzaffarabad.
Parents and guardians are being specifically urged to ensure that their children do not ride motorcycles if they are underage. Additionally, all riders, regardless of age, must wear helmets while driving. The campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage responsible behaviour to reduce road accidents and injuries.
As part of this focused effort, the authorities have issued a clear warning: from May 10th onwards, strict action will be taken against any underage drivers or any individual found without a helmet or engaging in dangerous activities such as one-wheeling. Officials have stated that no excuse will be accepted once the campaign begins in full force.
The police department has also appealed to the public to take the matter seriously and educate their children on the importance of following traffic rules. The use of helmets, they stressed, is not just a legal requirement but a vital precaution that can save lives.
This action is part of a wider strategy to curb the growing trend of underage driving in Muzaffarabad, which has been a concern for both residents and authorities. With roads becoming increasingly busy, especially in urban areas, reckless driving by minors poses a significant threat to public safety.
By holding both underage drivers and their parents accountable, the campaign intends to set a strong precedent. Officials believe that community cooperation is essential for the success of this initiative.
The authorities have emphasised that the focus is not just on punishment but also on awareness. They hope the campaign will help instil a culture of safety and responsibility among young riders.
