MURREE (Kashmir English): The government has decided to extend the route of the Murree Glass Train up to Muzaffarabad.
Earlier, it was planned that the train will ply between the Lake View Park in Islamabad to Murree Bus Stand. The authorities have now decided that the train will run from Islamabad Airport up to Muzaffarabad.
The decision was taken in a special meeting held at Government House Murree, chaired by Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where it was agreed to extend the Glass Train Project up to Muzaffarabad.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb briefed the meeting that a historic package worth billions of rupees has been approved for the development of Murree and its surrounding areas, which is being termed as the largest development program in Murree’s history.
In the meeting, it was decided to make Kotli Sattian the most modern tourism hub of Punjab. As many as 14 tourism schemes were also approved.
An eco-friendly glamping pod village and resort, Punjab’s first modern paragliding center, a sky glass bridge for tourists, and a new chairlift project will be established here, while the Patriata chairlift will also be repaired and upgraded.
Briefing on Murree Glass Train Project
A 50-bed hospital will be constructed in Bhurban, while a water supply scheme along with the bus stand has been completed. Briefing was also given on the Murree Glass Train Project, for which bidding will take place in March.
Initially, the 40-kilometer-long glass train will run from Lake View Park to Murree Bus Stand, and it was also agreed to extend it from Islamabad Airport to Muzaffarabad.
The meeting also decided to restore Murree’s historic buildings according to their original design and to establish a separate department for the preservation of cultural heritage.
Renovation of 23 buildings and 76 shops on Mall Road has been completed, while a quality hotel complex will be established in Murree under a public-private partnership, the meeting was briefed.
