KOTLI (Kashmir English): Law-enforcement agencies arrested eight miscreants linked to the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Kotli and seized weapons and ammunition, security sources said on Tuesday.
As per details, the arrested accused were planning to disrupt law and order in the region and carry out an attack against state institutions.
The operation was conducted after authorities received information about alleged plans to create unrest and obstruct the movement of security forces.
According to the sources, several weapons and equipment, including 4 SMGs, 1 pistol, 600 SMG rounds, 100 G3 rounds, 2 hand grenades, two motorcycles, and a car, were also seized from the possession of miscreants.
The arrested accused include the ringleader of the gang, identified as Ayaz Siddique, whose confessional statement has come to light.
According to security officials, Ayaz Siddique confessed that several defence committees and teams had been formed in Kotli following a meeting in Chinarsingh to organise sit-ins and block roads.
He further claimed that weapons and ammunition had been provided to the group for use against security personnel if they advanced towards the protesters.
“It was planned to use bombs and grenades to prevent the security forces from moving forward,” he said.
Officials said that security agencies have taken the arrested suspects and recovered material into custody, while further investigation is underway to determine the role of each individual and identify any facilitators.
