ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Engineer Amir Muqam, on Monday said the government was willing to accept the demands of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) based on available resources.
However, they would never give up on the Kashmir cause, Muqam said while speaking to the media outside the Parliament House in Islamabad.
“The Prime Minister has formed a committee under my leadership to address this issue,” Mr Muqam explained.
“We travelled to Azad Kashmir and engaged in discussions with the Joint Action Committee there till late at night. We conducted some of the longest talks of our careers, sitting down to discuss matters for an entire night.”
We are committed to accepting the reasonable demands, he added.
“The Kashmir cause has been revitalised, and our efforts are focused on maintaining peace while also considering the demands of the public.”
“We have prioritised providing wheat and flour to the Kashmiri people at reasonable prices,” Muqam asserted. “We are committed and hold core respect for the Kashmiri community.”
“The Kashmiri people have recently listed 38 new demands, and we have listened to each of them with the proper care and consideration,” Muqam said, adding that one specific concern is the proposal to abolish the seats of twelve refugees in the Kashmir Assembly, which we believe could harm the Kashmir cause.
“We have agreed to accept the public demands based on available resources,” he emphasised.
He also noted that ongoing lockdowns and traffic closures are adversely affecting the lives of the Kashmiri community.
The federal minister said that Indian media channels were spreading negative propaganda about the situation. “Despite these challenges, we are still committed to resolving the issue through dialogue and discussions,” he maintained.
Federal minister, who is also the PML-N chief for the KP chapter, further said that it was the responsibility of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government to establish a firm authority to ensure the safety of the people.
